Key Stage 1

Year 1 and 2 form Key Stage 1 and are the beginning of your child's journey through the national curriculum. Learning objectives are introduced through whole class teaching, and during this phase of education there is movement towards more independent learning, the children encouraged to work alone or within their groups. This independent and group work is planned to meet the children's individual needs.


The following area are covered:


English Literacy


We aim to ensure children read fluently and accurately, both for pleasure and to acquire information.


Mathematics & Sciences


Each child receives regular maths & sciences session with reinforced home working in line with the National Primary Framework.


Design and Technology


Children have many opportunities to develop particular skills and knowledge when working with tools and materials. They are encouraged to participate in a variety of cooking activities.


Information and Communication Technology (ICT)


In each child's learning program, they are taught to use ICT equipment and software confidently. Each classroom has its set of IT equipment and the school has a fully equipped IT suite suitable for class learning activities.


Physical Education (PE)


Each class has regular PE sessions on school premises and each child is encouraged to explore physical movement and develop these skills.
