Welcome to Al-Ashraf Secondary School for Girls (formerly Gloucestershire Islamic Secondary School), a non-selective, 11-16 school established in 1994 by the Gloucester Muslim Welfare Association Ltd and now under the proprietorship of Al-Madani Educational Trust. (Registered Charity No. 1134963)
Since its humble beginnings in 1994 with two classes and 36 students, Al-Ashraf Secondary School for Girls has evolved into a successful secondary school, aiming to provide a high standard of secular and Islamic education. Our GCSE results have continued to improve over the years and are generally above local and national averages. (See: Exam Results)
With the advantage of small class sizes, dedicated staff, outstanding pupil behaviour and positive attitudes to learning, we promote a positive culture of learning which enables pupils to excel both academically as well as in their personal development.
Students are assessed regularly through homework, class tests and end-of-year exams. At the end of Year 11, pupils have an opportunity to attain 9/10 GCSE passes. Most of our pupils go on to study A-Levels at local sixth forms.
Over and above our academic provision, we take pride in our safe, caring, moral and spiritual environment wherein pupils are nurtured to develop good Akhlaaq (morals & manners) based on the noble teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). Our curriculum coupled with high expectations of behaviour and morals equip our pupils well with the responsibilities of adult life in modern Britain.
The school is fully committed to promoting fundamental British values of:
Our curriculum continues to be reviewed and developed regularly. We offer our girls excellent opportunities for personal development through a comprehensive PSHE/Citizenship/RSE programme, local visits, careers guidance, Islamiat curriculum & themed assemblies. Our curriculum also ensures equality and fosters tolerance and respect for others. It also ensures that pupils stay safe from abuse, extremism and radicalisation.
We are confident, with Allah's help and mercy, the school will continue to flourish and succeed in its aims, Insha-Allah.
