Overview

Purpose of study

GCSE Psychology introduces students to the scientific study of human behaviour and mental processes. Students explore how psychologists investigate behaviour and consider different explanations for why people think, feel and behave in particular ways.

The course develops students' ability to analyse psychological theories, evaluate research evidence and apply psychological knowledge to real-life situations.

Aims

Students will:

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of key psychological concepts, theories and research.
  • Understand how psychological research is carried out.
  • Develop critical thinking and evaluation skills.
  • Apply psychological knowledge to unfamiliar situations.
  • Understand the importance of evidence in Psychology.
  • Develop an understanding of ethical issues in psychological research.
  • Develop mathematical and statistical skills relevant to psychological research.
