Year 8 have been learning how the Periodic Table has been developed over the years based on the properties of elements.
Students watched demonstrations to help them work out the properties of Group 1 Alkali metals.
These metals are soft and can be cut with a knife, they react with water to form Hydrogen gas and turn universal indicator purple which is where they name ‘Alkali metal’ comes from.
The highlight of the demonstration was definitely the explosive reaction of Potassium with water!
Well done, Year 8 scientists!
